Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) is the executive agency of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment in the Netherlands. It was established in 1798 and maintains and develops the main roads, waterways and water systems on behalf of the Ministry. The agency’s main aims are providing a fast and safe flow of traffic (RWS dry), maintaining and improving the waterways (RWS wet), and protecting the country against flooding.
